Five fabulous half term trips with TrawsCymru

If you’re stuck for ideas to keep the kids entertained, we’ve put together a list of five great locations along the TrawsCymru network to ensure the whole family has a great day out!

So why not leave the car at home this half term and let us do the driving for you.

Loggerheads Country Park – T8

Venture out on our T8 service and take the family on an expedition around Loggerheads Country Park.

Rich in heritage and beauty, Loggerheads was an important lead mining area and evidence of this industrial past still remains partially hidden within this fascinating woodland.

The park is free to enter and has a well-marked Discovery Trail and easily accessible pathways around the park and to the hills and valleys beyond.

What’s more, the T8 bus service will drop you right outside the entrance!

National Showcaves Centre for Wales (Dan-yr-Ogof) – T6

Explore the magic and beauty of one of the UK’s largest cave systems.

Dan-yr-Ogof totals an incredible 11 miles in length, but don’t worry, most of that is reserved only for experienced cavers to explore.

That’s not to say the showcaves don’t pack in some fascinating sights.

If you’re not quite finished, why not journey back in time and walk amongst over 200 life-sized dinosaur models – getting up and close with some of the creatures that roamed the world millions of years ago!

The T6 bus will drop you right outside the entrance to the showcaves, which are located just five miles north of Ystradgynlais.

Plantasia Tropical Zoo, Swansea – T6

If it’s a rainy day outside, then why not explore the wonders of the rainforest?

Plantasia Tropical Zoo is a real rainforest zoo in the heart of Swansea City Centre – featuring Wales’ only Crocodile feeding experience!

Spend the day with the family as you sample a slice of life in the rainforest, coming face to face with the creatures living in the undergrowth and the canopies.

The T6 bus will drop you by the Sainsbury’s, on the opposite site of the road to the zoo.

Techniquest Science Centre, Cardiff Bay – T4 / T1C

Get your science hats on and head down to Techniquest and try out more than 100 hands-on exhibitions!

From an iconic giant pneumatic dragon to chunky puzzles, there’s plenty to keep all ages entertained.

Experience the stars as you’ve never seen before in the amazing digital Planetarium. Gaze at the night sky whatever time of day or weather, and learn about the constellations and some of the myths that surround them.

The T1C bus service will drop you off at Cardiff Bay’s Mermaid Quay – a short walk from Techniquest. More information on timetables is available here.

You can also take the T4 service into Cardiff and then catch the BayCar down to Techniquest. More information on timetables is available here.

Zip World, Penrhyn Quarry, Bethesda – T10

Soar high above the incredible landscape of Eryri National Park with an adrenaline fuelled family day out on the zip wires!

While you’re there, why not take a tour around the historic Penrhyn Quarry and its important role in the slate mining industry of north Wales.

The T10 bus service drops you in the centre of Bethesda, where it’s just a short walk up to the Zip World site. More information on timetables is available here.
