Aberystwyth

We started our trip in Aberystwyth, a postcard of a classic seaside escape. Picture a Victorian promenade, beach views, fish and chips, ice cream; all within minutes of Aberystwyth Bus Station. Home to iconic attractions like the National Library of Wales and the Vale of Rheidiol Railway, there is plenty to entertain yourself in the coastal town. Aberystwyth also has its own pub folklore, regarded as having the most pubs per square mile in the UK. With 24 hours on the clock, that adventure had to be rain checked. After a stroll along the promenade and a wander round the town, it was time to hop on the next bus.

As well as a bustling pub scene, Aberystwyth has a bus-tling scene (pardon the pun). The TrawsCymru T1, T2/T28 and T5 all stop at the bus station, so we hopped on the T1 to our next stop: Aberaeron.

Aberaeron

The breathtaking scenery along the Aberystwyth - Aberaeron stretch is enough to warrant the trip. Sparkling sea views, rolling hills, the rocky coast; whichever direction you look, you’re treated to the diverse nature of Wales.

Known for its colourful harbour, Aberaeron is the perfect place for a pitstop. The iconic Hive, famous for their honey ice cream, is just a 5-minute walk from the bus stop. After a walk around the harbour with our ice ceam, we headed into Driftwood Designs to pick up a coastal souvenir. If we were staying for dinner, Y Seler would have tempted us. With beautiful harbour views, the local restaurant recently won Traditional Restaurant of the Year award. With the afternoon in full swing, we headed to the bus stop to catch the T5 to our next destination.

New Quay

We really are spoilt for choice with picturesque places to visit in West Wales. The T5 took us straight to what was recently named the prettiest coastal village in the UK: New Quay.

Known for bottlenose dolphins, stunning views and rich Dylan Thomas history, the small but mighty New Quay is somewhere you won’t want to leave. From dolphin-spotting boat trips and renowned fish and chips to bar-hopping and coastal walks, it’s an idyllic coastal escape. We settled on a coffee with harbour views at the Bluebell, before our final bus of the day.

Aberporth

After a long day of travelling and exploring, Aberporth was the perfect place to unwind. The T5 bus stops just minutes from the beach; sit back on a bench, enjoy the views and listen to the waves. For dinner with a view, we headed to The Ship Inn and enjoyed the prawn tagliatelle, and the steak.

A morning beach walk in Aberporth - what better way to start the day? After spending the night, we made the most of our beautiful surroundings before our next bus. With the Wales Coast Path on our doorstep, we got some steps in and admired the stunning coastal views. Cardigan

Who knew a slow morning in Cardigan could be so peaceful? Accompanied by the flow of the River Teifi, we wandered along the path before exploring Cardigan Guildhall Market. The iconic Crwst café was a great breakfast spot, who recently took home the Artisan Food & Drink Producer at the 2026 Muddy Stiletto Awards. After trying their cinnamon bun and focaccia, we concur.
