Cracking entertainment this Christmas on the TrawsCymru network

As autumn gives way to chilly months of winter, that needn’t be a reason to stay indoors.

With Christmas just around the corner, it’s time to dust off those winter coats, get your hats and scarves on and head out and enjoy the wonderful Christmas markets and festivities taking place at locations across the TrawsCymru network.

We’ve put together a selection of our favourite festive locations along with some great activities to keep you busy in the run up to Christmas.

Betws-y-Coed – T10

The festive season is a perfect time to visit beautiful Betws-y-Coed. This wonderful mountain village could be mistaken for an Alpine resort at this time of year. Nestled in the Conwy valley, it boasts plenty of shops selling all the best outdoor gear to quality local crafts. It’s the perfect location for a winter walk, too. Our T10 service will take you there.


Bristol Christmas Market – T7

Take a short ride on our T7 service from Chepstow across the bridge to Bristol and explore its fantastic Christmas Market. Home to more than 35 Christmas stalls, there’s plenty to keep you busy as you browse your way through. Santa and his elves will also be in town to help the kids with their Christmas present wishes. There’s also live music to be enjoyed alongside delicious food and drinks. Find out more here.

Chepstow – T7

This lovely little town on the banks of the river Wye is a great place to visit at Christmas – no less for its hugely impressive castle that stands mighty on the cliff-edge, looking across to England. Chepstow Racecourse has another packed schedule of racing and special events to be enjoyed this December. Whether you fancy an afternoon at the races or you’re in the mood for some Bingo Lingo, there’s plenty of festive fun on offer. The town’s Christmas Market is being held on Sunday 10 December between 10am and 3pm.

Cardiff Christmas Market – T4 & T1C

There’s always a great festive buzz in the capital and this year is no exception. Cardiff’s famous Christmas market runs until the 23rd December and is well worth a visit. Not only that, you can also visit the much loved Winter Wonderland, spread across City Hall Lawn and Cardiff Castle. If you’re heading to the castle, make sure you’ve got your skates at the ready. Chester Christmas Market – T8

This border city is the ideal location for a perfect Christmas getaway. Chester Christmas Market is returns for another year of festive fun, with 70 traders situated in the square around the town hall. Browse the city’s stylish new arcade and the forum surrounding the staple sparkling tree in the heart of the city.

Haverfordwest – T5 & T11

Head down to Haverfordwest and browse the Christmas Fair at the Pembrokeshire County Showground. On Sunday, December 10, 2023, the Parkhouse building on the Haverfordwest Showground will be transformed into a Christmas paradise. There will be even more stalls this year with a wide variety of quality local businesses exhibiting as well as festive music, Santa in his Grotto and a food court.

Hay-on-Wye – T14

Take our T14 service to the ‘town of books’ this Christmas. Hay-on-Wye is a picturesque market town straddling the border between England and Wales. Aside from getting lost in the town’s many bookstores, there’s plenty of festive fun on the town’s agenda this year. Hay Markets will be hosting the third Hay Christmas Fayre on Saturday 9 December, with more than 100 traders throughout the town centre bringing festive gifts, local crafts and homewares – as well as lovely food and drink!

Hereford – T14

Hereford’s cosy side streets packed with independent shops and an abundance of lovely pubs make it an ideal location to visit this Christmas. A visit to the spectacular cathedral is a must at this time of year – which regularly hosts its own Christmas Fair. There’s plenty more activities to help keep you busy in this historic city and more information can be found here.

Wrexham – T3 & T12

Head to Wales’s newest city on our T3 or T12 and explore its Winter Festival and Christmas Market in Bellevue Park, taking place between Friday 8 and Sunday 10 December.
