Need some inspiration on how to entertain your kids this half term? From pottery painting and walking trails in Brecon to an interactive science museum in Wrexham, plan your days out with TrawsCymru.

Brecon (T4, T6)

Theatr Brycheiniog

Overlooking the canal is Theatr Brycheiniog. Offering a range of shows and events for the local community, families can see shows like the circus-comedy show Out of the Box on Friday 20 February. Head to the café afterwards for a well-deserved snack with peaceful canal views.

Y Gaer

Hidden gem Y Gaer is a must-visit this half term. Small but full of exhibits, explore the Victorian courtroom, dress up in traditional Welsh costume and visit the old school rooms. Wander around the art gallery then head downstairs to the library where you can explore the range of books and visit the café.

Garwnant Visitor Centre

Located in Bannau Brycheiniog National Park, Garwnant Visitor Centre offers a great day out this half term. Discover walking trails, a play centre, pottery painting and more. Pop into the on-site gift shop and cafe for a treat.

Swansea (T6)

Plantasia

Plantasia Tropical Zoo is a real rainforest zoo in the heart of Swansea. Featuring Wales’ only crocodile feeding experience, this is a great way to spend a rainy day in half term.

Swansea Museum

Visit Wales’ oldest museum this half term. Swansea Museum is just a 3-minute walk from the closest bus stop and has exhibitions covering centuries of history, from an Egyptian mummy to the Welsh kitchen.

Swansea Library

A trip to the local library is a great way to spend one day this half term. Go to the LEGO club, story and crafts club, or browse the range of books and choose one together for your child’s half-term read.

Wrexham (T3/T3C, T51)

Xplore Discovery Centre

Xplore is perfect for a rainy day. This science museum is packed with over 85 interactive activities to enjoy, from volcanoes and dinosaurs to a live science show. For an outdoor adventure, go to their spring Stay and Play session on Saturday 21 February.

Wrexham Library

For relaxing family-friendly activities, head to Wrexham Library. Go to their Valentine’s craft session, family board game session, Rhyme Time and more.

Chester (T8)

Storyhouse

At Storyhouse in Chester, you’re spoilt for choice with half term fun. The Very Hungry Caterpillar Show is on the 21 and 22 February, bringing the classic children’s book to life. Free events include weekend craft activities and a museum pop-up from Grosvenor Museum and The Cathedral.

Chester Cathedral

Visit Chester Cathedral for a Moon Model Making Workshop designed by an Aardman model making expert. Visit the Moon-themed clay station and shape your own plasticine character, inspired by Wallace & Gromit’s adventures. This is a great activity for all the family and gives you a half term souvenir to take home.

Cardiff Castle

Did you know that under 16s can get a Castle Key at Cardiff Castle for free?

A Castle Key lets local Cardiff residents enjoy Cardiff Castle for free, for 3 years. Explore the Roman Walls, The Norman Keep and Wartime Shelters as you step back in time to different eras. If the weathers on your side, the surrounding gardens are a great spot for a picnic.
