Aged 21 or under? With your mytravlpass, days out by bus are even cheaper, with £1 singles and £3 day tickets.

Here are our recommended things to do, and you can get there with TrawsCymru.

Aberaeron

Aberaeron

Hop on the T1 or T5 to Aberaeron. Colourful harbour-side houses, fresh sea air and the beautiful West Wales coastline create the perfect setting for a memorable day out.

Treat yourself to a honey ice cream from Hive, stroll along the harbour and explore the local shops.

Minfordd from Eryri National Park

Eryri National Park

Grab your walking shoes and head north to the mountains on the T2. Stop at Dolgellau for mountain scenery or explore the surrounding walking routes like:

  • Torrent Walk, a shorter walk where you’ll find waterfalls and river views. The bus stop to get off at is helpfully named Torrent Walk.
  • Tyn-y-Groes, a circular woodland route with stunning viewpoints. Get off the bus outside the Ty`n-y-groes Hotel.
  • Minffordd Path a path that ascends Cader Idris, making it a longer, strenuous walk. Hop off the bus outside the Minffordd Hotel.

New Quay

New Quay

It’s no surprise that New Quay was crowned the UK’s prettiest coastal town this year. At just over an hour’s bus journey from Aberystwyth, hop on the T5 for a day trip.

Rich in poetic history, learn more about famous Welsh poet Dylan Thomas and his favourite places in New Quay. Explore the local pubs, enjoy fish and chips along the harbour and try to spot some dolphins.

Machynlleth

Machynlleth

The charming town of Machynlleth is a must-visit when studying in Aberystwyth. Brimming with bookshops, independent shops and cosy cafes, hop on the T2 and start exploring. Discover Welsh heritage at the Owain Glyndwr Centre, stroll through Y Plas and enjoy a coffee and a sweet treat at a local café. If you’re travelling on a Wednesday, head to their renowned weekly market.

Fancy going to a local festival? Make sure to check out the iconic Machynlleth Comedy Festival, which takes over Machynlleth every May bank holiday weekend.
