Alfie’s trip to see the new T1 bus

3 years ago Mon 13th Mar 2023

Earlier this month, we met twelve-year-old Alfie Hughes, who visited us at our engagement event for the new T1 electric bus in Aberystwyth.

We soon learned that Alfie has a passion for buses and had travelled with his family from their home in Wrexham, using the TrawsCymru network, to come and see us in Aberystwyth.

Alfie’s enthusiasm, knowledge and love for buses shone through and his visit was a real highlight for the team at the engagement day.

The youngster also got a taste of life behind the wheel as he took his place in the driver’s cabin, looking every bit the part of a bus driver!

He also picked up one of our new TrawsCymru drivers’ handbooks and tried some of the new features on the all-electric T1 bus including its new mobile charging ports, reading lights and folding tables.

We thought it’d be great to catch up with Alfie and his mum, Tracey, to hear more about his day.

“We were up at six thirty in the morning and caught the T3 from Wrexham, before changing on to the T2 at Dolgellau to get the Aberystwyth,” Tracey, Alfie’s mum, told us.

“Alfie just absolutely loves buses – he knows all the TrawsCymru routes and timetables and he was really excited to see the new bus.

“We had a great day visiting the new bus and I’m sure we’ll be back to take a ride on it when it goes into service.”

Alfie, who told us he’d like to be a bus driver when he’s older, has made it his mission to one day travel on all the TrawsCymru bus routes – having now ridden the T2, T3, T12 and the T8.

The whole TrawsCymru team would like to thank Alfie and his family for visiting us in Aberystwyth and we’re looking forward to seeing them soon on the new T1 bus!

The new fleet of modern electric buses will be introduced from 26 March on the TrawsCymru T1 route between Carmarthen and Aberystwyth and a new charging hub will open in Carmarthenshire with new facilities for drivers and the buses.
